PROQUINSA Seeks New International Markets

The Peruvian company PROQUINSA, specialized in producing chemicals such as Sodium Silicates, Potassium Silicates, and Sodium Bicarbonate, is seeking to enter new international markets in 2024. The company, which began operations 64 years ago, has commercial operations in more than five countries across Latin America.
To date, exports account for 5% of its total revenue, and the goal is to increase this share in the coming years, especially given the growing demand from Ecuador’s aquaculture sector, where its products are used in shrimp farming. Other export destinations include Bolivia, Chile, Uruguay, and Honduras.
Juan Carlos Zevallos, the company’s Chief Commercial Officer, noted that PROQUINSA’s operations stand out for operating its own mineral quarries in Peru’s central highlands, which serve as the basis for the production of silicates and metasilicates. “We were the first to begin manufacturing these products,” he told the Perú Exporta bulletin.
The company serves more than 100 clients, both nationally and internationally, through its four business lines: aquaculture, agriculture, commercialization, and chemical products.
Increased Capacity and a New Product Line
PROQUINSA recently modernized its production plant, located in San Juan de Lurigancho, Lima. Specifically, the company invested in process automation using Asian-sourced technology to ensure greater efficiency and quality in its production, which now stands at around 4,000 metric tons per month.
PROQUINSA’s product portfolio includes food-grade Sodium Bicarbonate for use across various industries. The company is also introducing a new line to the retail market in different formats, given the product’s numerous household applications.
Currently, the company provides solutions for the agricultural sector using Potassium Silicate as a biostimulant, and for the aquaculture sector using Sodium Metasilicates. In addition, it maintains its traditional presence in the detergent, ceramics, welding, and mining markets.
